What an Opening Round for the Cats!

8 Apr by Trevor Hinchliffe

Hey, #CarineCatsFamily, hope you’re ready to slide into the latest scoop from the diamond because our #CarineCatsMen teams have come out swinging in Round 1 of Winter Softball, turning up the heat in what’s been a scorcher of a start to the season! 🔥⚾

DIV 6 DREW WOODLANDS WOLVES 9-9
Adam pitched a great game in debut for us. Bats were working, 3 home runs to Andrew, Beej and Ben Hoffman, had a great chance in the last to walk off win but just could not get it done. Promising start to work on.

DIV 7 BLUE DEF WOODLANDS BLUE 10-9
Blue had a win, but the scorers may have run out of the red ink by the end of the game :) Some clutch fielding and hitting in the last innings made all the difference. Adam Bettles with the walk off single.

DIV 7 BLACK DEF WOODLANDS WHITE 17-7
The Black Cats opened the season with a comfortable win against Woodies White in 5 innings. Behind stellar pitching from Hinchy the Cats defence was on point stifling the Wolves and holding them scoreless through the first three innings before giving up 2 in the 4th and 5 in the 5th when the game was well in hand. The Cats bats were on fire from the first innings with solid hitting and aggressive base running. Home runs by Paddy, Hinchy and Deano punctuated the offensive attack that saw the Cats put runs across the plate in all 5 innings.

DIV 8 DEF ELLENBROOK EASTERNS 9-7
We made a great start to their 3-week road trip defeating Ellenbrook. The infielders throwing themselves at the ball, all outfielders taking catches. Mark rolling back the clock catching and his son Oliver must be thinking this softball thing is a cinch: batted 1000% and also being Mark’s speed up runner brought home over half of our runs. He also picked up the 3 MVP votes.

DIV 9 DEF ROYALS 20-9
We made the trek to Royals and came away with the win. Home runs to Max Barrett and Paul Knoblauch with runners on got us some needed early runs and then great catching by Maxi, Sean and a diving catch from Spilcker set the tone in the field with Geoff Marchant also getting involved in a number of plays.

Keep the cheers coming, folks! And a big shoutout to Peeky at AutoOne Midland for fuelling our drive to win. Stay tuned for more and remember, whether on the field or the road, the #CarineCatsCommunity spirit always leads the way!

Let’s keep our paws on the pedal and eyes on the prize! Catch you at the next game! 🐾⚾💥
