🥎🥎RESULTS🥎🥎 - SENIORS ROUND 7 & JUNIORS ROUND 5

14 Jun by Chris (Chridder) Upson

Div 5 travelled across the country to take on Rockingham in what turned out to be a tough but thrilling contest.

Rockingham came out strong, with their 16-year-old pitcher keeping us quiet in the first innings. He had one of the best change-ups we’ve seen all season and definitely had our number early on.

But in true Cats fashion, we found our rhythm and got the bats working. Beej brought the spark with a huge 3-run homer to get us on the board.

Dek pitched the entire game under some seriously tight conditions – both from the umpire’s strike zone and the unpredictable strike zones of some of the junior players on the opposition 🤣. At times, it felt like we were up against an U14 squad, but credit where it’s due – they held their own!

The game had a little extra drama when the Rockingham coach was ejected for a deliberate misfield at third, followed by a hard (and ball-less) tag on Flanno – clearly some leftover frustration from an earlier play that didn’t go his way.

Heading into the bottom of the 5th, the scores were locked at 5-5. We managed to push across two more runs to take the lead. Rockingham’s leadoff batter then stepped up and, on a full count, launched one over the fence for a solo home run. With pressure building, Dek responded with a strikeout, followed by a crucial catch at first – two down.

With two more Rockingham batters getting on base, it came down to their youngest player. He smashed one deep into the gap between right and centre. Beej was first to the ball and fired a rocket straight to home, where Ewie laid down a perfectly timed tag for the third out – sealing a dramatic win for the Cats.

Another classic team effort full of grit, big hits, and a little chaos – just how we like it. Let’s go Cats!

Div7 Black

On a stunning winter’s day the Black Cats welcomed the Woodies to Biralee for the only home game of the round.

As is often the case with the Wolves, it was an entertaining, action-packed game filled with fantastic defensive plays on both sides.

However, the Cats paired near flawless fielding with an offensive outburst that saw the Wolves go through 4 pitchers in an attempt to slow the Cats attack.

At the top of the lineup Mooney paired 4 hits, including one double with lock down play at 3rd base. Not to be outdone Peeky had 3 hits including 2 doubles and recorded heaps of outs at SS including an unassisted double play to end an inning.

Other notables included Loopey with great play at CF and a double at the plate, several great outfield catches from Wrighty, and great all-around play at 1st base from Deano.

Saving the best for last – after heating up in recent weeks with his batting, but getting thwarted by good defensive plays Alan had a breakout game recording two hits and making several catches on the run in RF.

In the end it was a comprehensive, complete team win today with the Cats getting it done 19-5.

Div 7 Blue Cats travelled to Kingsway to face the reigning premiers.

The Cats were again fairly disciplined in the box, taking advantage of some wayward pitching but generally failed to capitalise, scoring six but leaving as many on base over four innings.

Multiple hits to Wardie and a solo HR to Doggs the highlights.

On defence the Cats were solid but lacked polish with a couple of errors and some hesitation in the field costing bases while the Vikings put the visitors to the sword with a solid hitting display.

Vikings win 11-6.

Div 8 ventured across the swan down to Col Country.

We rocked up to Melville and had an under 18 game on… freo v cockburn. Made us question if we were in the right spot 😂

It was tight all game and Melville got the win by 2. 8-6 but could have been a different result if we took all our chances in the field.

Highlights of the game were Jordan batting 1000 with 2 at bats. Knobby also batting 1000, on 1 at bat before straining is calf and ending his game.

Daniel put the fear of god thru melville when he launched a missile from centre field which just about got the runner coming home out.

Div 9 ventured all the way to Woodlands this week for our shortest road trip

The first 3 innings were tight with some great fielding from both sides to end with a 3-0 scoreline to the Woodies.

Chris Upson scored our first and only run in the fourth after hitting a single to Centre and being moved around by the next few batters.

Unfortunately, then the field opened up to the Woodies with them scoring 8 in the bottom of the 4th for them to run out winners 11-1.

Few safe hits in the day for us with Max, Matt, Chridder and Geoff recording the only hits and Geoff being the only one to get on base on both his at bats.

Although safe hits were at a premium their outfielders were doing additional duty as centre field took 5 catches with a couple of others to left and right.

Maxi also took some great catches at centre field for us with almost everyone else recording an out in the field.
