🥎🥎RESULTS🥎🥎 - SENIORS ROUND 9 & JUNIORS ROUND 7

25 Jun by Chris (Chridder) Upson

Div 5 edged out a 10–9 win in a back-and-forth battle against Ellenbrook Easterns on Sunday.
We came out strong in the first inning, with Flanno launching a two-run homer to centre field to get us on the board early. Dek followed it up with a double to drive in another, giving us a 3–1 lead. Ewie added a sacrifice fly in the second to make it 4–1.

Ellenbrook responded in the third with a big offensive push, scoring seven runs to take the lead 8–4. But the team stayed composed, and in the bottom of the third we answered with five hits and five runs of our own – including a clutch 2-RBI double from Dek – to swing the lead back in our favour, 9–8.

A solo home run from Ellenbrook in the fourth tied things up again, but a well-timed double helped us reclaim the lead 10–9 and close out the game.

We had a solid team effort on the mound – two innings by Bo to start, followed by three in relief from Dek, who battled through a tough line-up and a few tight calls to keep us in front.

Defensively, the team stepped up with some crucial plays – Beej, Danny, and Flanno all took speccy catches throughout the game to keep Ellenbrook off the bases.

With 11 team hits, five walks, and contributions across the field, it was a great all-round effort to get the win. On to the next one! 🐾⚾

Div 7 Black
On a miserable day, the Div7 Black Cats set out on a road trip to Bayswater Morley and once again managed a mainly dry game, save for a few sprinkles.

Facing a formidable team that looked nothing like the week 2 version that the Cats got on top of, and featured Neal Delpero on the rubber and in the batting box (Div 7? What a joke!) it was always going to be tough.

In a nightmare start, the Cats went down 1-2-3 to start the game and then on the very first pitch to Bayswater, their leadoff put a home run ball at least 15-20 meters over the cones. But the Cats defence stiffened with some good catch’s and plays around the infield. In the end the Bayswater runs came off four home runs – 2 by Neal Delpero who put a third nearly out – and a one skip ground rule double
In a weird game there were some positives for the Cats including some great infield outs to Aidan and Mooney. But the highlight of the game was an amazing double play by Jono who laid out at first base to snag a hard hit ball, then crawled/dove back to first base to double up the runner who’d bolted for second. It was one of those plays that was just too good and earned Jono the SPILKs award for the week. Jono also had another first for the year……swinging at a first pitch….much to everyone’s surprise 🤣.

The other big highlight was Kye’s first game in the Carine softball blues. Fresh off his 13th birthday, and his choice of b-day dinner – Beef Wellington (gotta love that!) he suited up alongside his old man and his old State Teeball team coaching crew. With most of us down to just monthly therapy session to deal with the trauma of coaching him in that first U9 Teeball team, we were excited to see how’d he go. What a way to start facing an ex Australian pitcher of the year (!), but to his credit he hung in there and got bat to ball!! It ended up looking more like a bunt but with the trademark Tierney speed on full display he ended up safe on first. Coming up to bat for a second time he looked more comfortable in the box and again put bat on ball, this time a grubber to third, that when the hurried 3rd baseman sailed the ball over the first baseman put Kye on second base. Not a bad way to start off and as everyone was sure to point out – better on the day than his dad!

With pitching that really limited the Cats and a few massive power hitters on the other side the Cats ended up going down 8-4.

Div 7 Cats Blue travelled over to Marangaroo to meet the Jags on an otherwise fairly mild winter afternoon.

The Cats started well batting thought the line-up to post three runs in the top of the first. Two-up two-down was a good start in the field before the Jags 3 and 4 hitters went yard to close the gap. But the Cats were strategic in the box, getting runners on base and moving them around with hits, and a little guile, to build the pressure, adding multiple runs in all but the last inning. Mitchell with 3-from-4 including a single, a double, a triple, and three RBIs a highlight.

In defence the Cats were just as ruthless with diving catches to Chris Berryman and Deklan Phillips, 5 assists to Matt Ward (SS) and 9 put-outs to Yank (1B) holding the Jags to just 6 further hits. With 13 hits to 8, 5 walks to 3, and 2 errors to 6 the Cats dominated the stats and the scoreboard for an 11-7 win. PS The game was played in excellent spirits with Norm calling a good game with a consistent zone ;)

A good road trip all round!

Div 8 hosted Ellenbrook in a game that many of us will hope to forget.
Errors in the field and bad shot selection while batting aside, we still lost 5-2, but bring in the red pen and we went down 19-7.
Simon toiled away pitching, striking out 3, but the field struggled to back him up with 11 errors throughout the game.

Div 9 is on a streak!

We travelled to soggy Wyong reserve in Bentley where they have to move the diamond to find the most dry section.

There was standing water behind second base and in deep right field.

Our first innings at bat started poorly with the first three batters being retired in order.

They managed a single run on a couple of hits with Bernie taking a nice catch in left field.

Then the rain came and made pitching difficult on the rubber.

After they had 3 pitching changes and a number of walks we managed to score 9 and avoid the worst of the weather in the dugout.

Royals managed to score 6 on the back of two over the cones home runs but we were still in front.

A number of hits and a few errors from them allowed us to score another 10 in the third.

The umpire advised that we were 10 up and although we stopped stealing last weeks 21 run innings was still at the back of out minds.

A couple of hits and a couple of walks bought back memories of last week but a strike out and Chridder with a catch and throw to first got us over the line 19-12

U14’s

The U14’s were at home again today, hosting Vikings White

Mother nature did her best this morning to remind everyone that it is indeed Winter, although was kind enough to only really rain hard when the visiting team was in the field.

The junior cats struggled with the bats in the first couple of innings, facing a pitcher with a whole lot more pace than anything they have encountered before.

Although the pace was there, when combined with the weather, accuracy wasn’t always as strong. Thankfully Abraham was the only one to go home with an extra ‘souvenir’ courtesy of the pitcher, the cats only managing a single run in the first 2 innings.

After the fist 2 innings, the Junior Cats managed to turn it up a notch in the 3rd, holding Vikings scoreless whilst putting 6 across to keep themselves in the game.

The top of the fourth saw some more great fielding to again keep the visitors scoreless. As luck would have it, the junior cats couldn’t keep the momentum going with the bats, unable to add any more to their score.

The Juniors continue to develop, with Charlie making his catching debut. Miguel in just his 3rd game in the catching gear continues to show rapid improvement, managing to combine with Ethan for a tag out at home.

Jordy, also in just his 3rd game in the middle, also continues to improve each week, cleaning up and converting most that comes back his way into an out.

The junior cats unfortunately though couldn’t get the win today, going down 7-12.
