Div 5 – no report

Div 7 Black & Blue (thanks Jacob and Yank for helping us make numbers!) traveled to the top of the ladder Vikes.

From the start the Cats came out aggressive with the bats putting a number of first pitches into play or over the fence. The Cats continued the attacking mindset on the base paths advancing and putting the Vikes defence under pressure that led to several chirpy innings amongst the home side as they struggled to get the Cats out.

On the defensive side the Cats rode great pitching from Peekey and solid defence around the grounds including two stellar catches to Jacob in CF, awesome work from Jono at first base and Aidan making his debut behind the plate.

The standout Cat of the day went to the starting pitcher Peekey who added a HR, a triple, a single, and an amazing diving, full layout catch in front of the pitchers circle.

Unfortunately with the Cats trying to close out the win the weather moved in, the sky’s opened up and the Cats pitching couldn’t cope, struggling to find the zone and allowing the Vikes back into the game. We managed to stiffen just in time to record the last out and secure a 14-14 draw. Not the outcome we’d hoped for, but a terrific result against the undefeated top of the ladder.

Div 7 Blue travelled out to Bayswater for another tight tussle against a (re) stacked Bayswater-Morley line-up. The Cats got off to a good start putting a run on the board at the top of the first and kept the match level through the first two innings. Some solid defence and consistent offence allowed the Cats to get on top over the next three innings taking a five to three lead into the top of the sixth. Unfortunately, this again was not enough to hold off a team that simply made less errors and put more hits on the board with Bayswater Morley coming over the top of the Cats to win 7-5. Hotdogs with 3 from 3 including a double and an RBI the stand-out for the Cats.

Div 8 took the long drive to woodies to play on the postage stamp diamond 2.

The game didn’t start too well with the first pitch drilling the woodies lead off in the thigh.

The team played fairly well, but without luck. Special mentions to Daniel for going 3 for 3 and Mark Hanson hitting what should have been a routine centre field catch, but ended up being pushed over the cones for an error/home run.

In blustery, but dry conditions we just couldn’t get anything started and ended up going down 19-5

Div 9 travelled to Morley on a blustery Sunday afternoon.

We were able to come away with the win 21-16 after a game changing 3rd innings where we scored 15 runs to put us ahead.

Matt with 4 outs at 1st and Howie and Geoff with 3 each accounted for most of the Morley outs.

All players scored a run during the game with Chridder batting 1000 with 4 hits from 4 at bats and Russ with 3 from 3 and a walk helped the top end of the batting order score the bulk of the runs.

Mention should also go to Matt and Maxi for 3 from 4 batting although Maxi could have had 4 from 4 if he knew where the foul ball line was.

All round a strong performance from the 9’s with solid batting and minimal errors in the field to take home the win.
