Division 5 Recap – Carine Cats vs Woodlands Wolves
It was a high-scoring contest on Sunday with both teams swinging the bats freely, but we fell short 18–12 against Woodlands. Despite the result, there were plenty of positives in our hitting – Adam had a massive day at the plate, going 3-for-4 and driving in four runs, including a two-run homer in the fourth. Beej followed up with a two-run shot of his own, and Flanno chipped in with a solo blast as part of a five-run inning that gave us some momentum. Across the game we piled up 14 hits, with Flanno, Ewie, and Adam each collecting three, while Arndel added two more of his own.
Adam worked five innings on the mound and kept battling despite the Wolves’ big third inning. Offensively, Beej also finished with four RBIs, showing our ability to keep pressure on with runners on base. In the field, we had some solid plays to back up the pitching, and as a group we continued to fight right through to the last out. While the scoreboard didn’t go our way, the effort and energy across the lineup were encouraging signs, and there’s plenty for us to build on heading forward. 🐾⚾
Div 7 Black
The Div7 Black Cats hosted the Vikes who started the game off with a bang when the leadoff hitter took the first pitch of the game over the CF cones for a quick 1 run lead to the visitors.
Unfortunately it didn’t get too much better from there as the Cats defence committed a handful of untimely errors that the Vikes turned into runs including a monster grand slam by the leadoff when their lineup flipped in the second inning.
On the offensive side the Cats unfortunately stranded runners on the bath path rather than getting them across the plate.
After a late Cats come back fell short the final score was 14-7 in favour of the Vikings.
Div 7 Blue
In fluctuating weather conditions at Birralee Oval, Carine Cats Blue went head-to-head with Bayswater Morley in a tightly contested clash. Bayswater jumped out early with two runs in the first and another in the second before the Cats rallied in the third, plating three runs to take the lead. However, the game turned in the fourth as Bayswater strung together timely hits to push across four decisive runs.
Carine fought hard but couldn’t close the gap, going down 7–4 despite some standout performances. Mitchell impressed in his first complete game of the season on the mound, showing resilience across the changing weather conditions. At the plate, Jacob led the offense with two hits from three at-bats, while Hotdogs provided the highlight of the day with a big home run that brought in two RBIs. Chris Berryman’s “double” on a dropped third strike also a notable highlight as was Oliver’s long-awaited and impactful return to the field.

Div 9
The home ground advantage didn’t come into play for the Div 9 Cats today, going down to second bottom of the ladder Morley Eagles. To add insult to injury, Morley only had 8 players!
Max, Chridder and Luke all had 2 from 3 hits.
Unfortunately the 8 errors in the field cost us dearly.
Not to mention our total of 30 at bats versus 53 for Morley!
A decent 15 hits in total for the Cats just didn’t translate into runs, with a lot of guys stranded on bag each innings.
Here’s hoping our final trek down to Rockingham next week is worth the effort. 🥎
U14s
With the sky looking ominous, the juniors made the short trek to Kingsway to face the Vikings White. The signs were there when it decided to bucket down just as we were about to warm up.
10 minutes later, and the team was able to get a quick warm up in whilst the standing water on the diamond was ‘encouraged’ off the base paths to allow the game to start.
The cats went 3 up 3 down against what would be one of the fastest U14 pitchers in the competition, before holding the home team to just a single run with some steady sure-footed fielding to get the 3 outs.
Top of the second, 3 pitches in and the heavens opened again, with another downpour seeing the teams leave the field for safety.
Unfortunatley, even once the rains eased, there was just too much water left on the ground, the run to first looking more like a swim in a creek, and anyone fielding at second likely to need a snorkel with the game unable to proceed. Game deemed a washout by the Umpires.
